Indian Railways is a key driver of India’s economic growth and development. South Western Railway (SWR) plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of Karnataka State. In recent years, Railways in Karnataka have achieved many visible milestones, including the completion of 318 km of new lines, 937 km of doubling, and 1576 km of electrification in the last decade. Additionally, 170 new Mail/Express and 102 Passenger Special trains have been introduced, while many trains have been extended, and their frequency increased. The railway personnel are vibrant and dedicated, ready to adapt to the changing scenario of the transport sector to fulfill the requirements and expectations of the people of Karnataka. During the COVID-19 pandemic, railway personnel have contributed to society in various capacities. This document aims to list some of the important accomplishments in the recent past and current projects in the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha Constituency.
In the last nine years, the SWR has undertaken several initiatives to improve the quality of service. These include introducing 33 new trains, providing new stoppages for 20 trains, and extending services to 21 trains. The department has also completed six major infrastructure improvement projects, spending Rs 212.64 crore. Additionally, it has provided 64 various amenities at 10 railway stations, spending Rs 365.207 crore. Thefollowing is a breakdown of the amenities provided at each station:
● KSR Bengaluru Station: 19 works at Rs 22.0511 crore
● Bengaluru Cantonment Station: 5 works at Rs 2.74 crore
● Karmelaram Station: 3 works at Rs 0.8277 crore
● KSR Bengaluru & Bengaluru Cantonment Station: 2 works at Rs 0.44 crore
● Whitefield Station: 11 works at Rs 21.9532 crore
● Banaswadi Station: 7 works at Rs 0.769 crore
● Baiyyappanahalli Station: 8 works at Rs 0.948 crore
● Bengaluru East Station: 4 works at Rs 0.228 crore
● Hoodi Station: 3 works at Rs 1.25 crore
● Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal, Bengaluru (TCTB): 1 work at Rs 314 crore
The department has also completed nine other major works, spending Rs 76.1 crore. Finally, all 37 rakes of SBC Division primarily maintained trains have been converted to LHB design coaches from ICF design.
